More Than a Meal: Why Giving Back Is Part of Jerkology’s Purpose

A restaurant can serve great food, create jobs, and become a successful business. But I have always believed it can do something more: become a source of opportunity and support for the community around it.

That belief is one of the reasons Jerkology exists. Through Jerkology Jamaican Grill and Jerkology Jamaican Vegan, we want to build businesses that people love while creating a sustainable way to support charitable work through WisdomPhilanthropy.

For us, giving back is not an occasional marketing campaign. It is part of the purpose behind what we are building.

The Belief That Started WisdomPhilanthropy

WisdomPhilanthropy was established on June 15, 2011, with a simple mission: “Within our abilities, HELP Everyone.” Today, it is a U.S. 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization dedicated to creating meaningful impact through Education, Healthcare, Community Development, Youth Empowerment, Disaster Relief, and Environmental Sustainability.

Growing up in Jamaica, I developed an awareness of the challenges many people faced and a belief that those who have the ability to help should make an effort to do so.

That belief has grown into an organization, as mentioned above, that's focused on Education, Healthcare, Community Development, Youth Empowerment, Disaster Relief, and Environmental Sustainability. Our work combines immediate assistance with initiatives intended to create longer-term opportunities.

We believe compassion should lead to action. Sometimes that action is providing a meal to someone who is hungry. Other times, it is improving a school, supporting a family, or helping a young person develop skills for the future.

From California to Jamaica: Turning Care Into Action

Our commitment to community service has been demonstrated through projects in both the United States and Jamaica.

In California, WisdomPhilanthropy organized outreach efforts supporting people experiencing homelessness. Our team prepared and distributed more than 200 Care Packages containing fresh fruit and beverages, prepared hot meals for over 150 people, and spent time walking with, talking to, and caring for individuals in need.

Those experiences reinforced something important: meaningful service is not only about what we give. It is also about treating people with dignity, listening to their stories, and recognizing their humanity.

In Jamaica, our work has included Care Package distributions across communities such as McIntyre Villa, Rose Town, Kencot, Pembroke Hall, Nannyville, Whitfield, Waltham Park, and Kidd Lane. These initiatives have supported hundreds of families with essential assistance.

Through our Golden Care Initiative, we are committed to supporting vulnerable seniors and individuals who may lack adequate care or resources. The initiative reflects our belief that aging should never mean being forgotten, and that every person deserves dignity, compassion, and meaningful support. Our efforts focus on providing practical assistance, companionship, and care to help improve the quality of life of those who need it most.

Our Bright Futures program focuses on creating better learning environments for children and young people. We have worked with schools, including Hope Valley School, Naggo Head Primary, and Gregory Park Primary, on projects involving improvements to Kitchen Facilities, new appliances, beautification, and better ventilation for cooking and student dining areas. These efforts help create safer, more welcoming spaces where students can learn, grow, and thrive.

Together, these initiatives reflect our belief that community development requires both immediate care and long-term investment in people. From supporting seniors and families to improving schools, we are committed to building communities where individuals of every generation have the opportunity to live with dignity and reach their full potential.

Why We Connect Business With Philanthropy

Traditional fundraising plays an important role in charitable work, but we believe organizations can also create sustainable sources of funding through well-managed, mission-aligned businesses.

Jerkology is part of that approach. A portion of the proceeds generated by our businesses will help support WisdomPhilanthropy’s charitable projects and community initiatives. This allows us to connect entrepreneurship with service while continuing to invest in the operations, employees, and growth of the businesses themselves.

The goal is to create a model where commercial success and community impact can reinforce each other. As our businesses grow stronger, we hope to increase the resources and opportunities available to support meaningful charitable work.

We want our guests to know that Jerkology is committed to more than the food on the plate. We are working to build a business that contributes positively to the communities that make its success possible.

Our Plans for Florida

As we prepare to establish Jerkology in Orlando, we are also looking forward to supporting WisdomPhilanthropy’s planned initiatives across Florida.

Our Florida pipeline includes Feed & Rise, a community food security program designed to provide nutritious meals and essential groceries to families, seniors, and individuals in need. The initiative also aims to partner with local farms, restaurants, and supermarkets to reduce food waste and expand access to food assistance.

HomeStart is being developed to help families transition from homelessness or temporary shelter into more stable housing. The program is designed to provide essential household items, mentorship, and practical support that can help families rebuild with dignity.

Our Youth Empowerment & Digital Skills Lab aims to equip underserved young people with digital literacy, entrepreneurship, creative technology, and mentorship opportunities. By helping youth develop practical skills, we hope to support pathways toward employment, innovation, and greater independence.

These initiatives represent the kind of community work we want to help make possible as Jerkology grows. They are part of our plans and will be developed through appropriate funding, partnerships, and operational readiness.

Being an Active Member of the Community

Giving back should not be limited to financial contributions. We want Jerkology to be an active participant in the communities where we operate.

That means building relationships with local organizations, supporting community events, creating employment opportunities, encouraging volunteerism, and looking for practical ways to use our resources and expertise to help others.

As a food business, we are especially passionate about the role food can play in addressing hunger and bringing people together. We understand the value of a warm meal, but we also understand that lasting change often requires education, opportunity, stability, and continued support.

Our ambition is to grow alongside our communities, not simply operate within them.

A Purpose We Intend to Grow

We are proud of the work WisdomPhilanthropy has accomplished, but we also recognize that there is much more to do. The needs of communities are complex, and no single organization or business can solve every challenge.

What we can do is remain committed, work with others, and contribute within our abilities.

As Jerkology Jamaican Grill and Jerkology Jamaican Vegan develop, we hope to demonstrate that a restaurant can be both a place of great food and a platform for meaningful impact. Every new partnership, every opportunity created, and every project supported will be another step toward that vision.
